The department was established in 1981and it has a single faculty with adequate competency to handle sports activities necessary to satisfy the needs of students. The present faculty pursued Ph.D. degree during the academic year 2022. Training programes are given to the students who are interested in sports and games, in addition to the screening for participation in various tournaments.  Regular coaching is provided to the students in Football , Table Tennis, Athletics , Kabaddi, Yoga, and  Fencing. Many students participate in the national and state level games and athletic meets, and regularly win prizes. The department also offers an open course on " Health and Fitness Education" for the degree students. The department also organizes various intercollegiate tournaments. The department also gives more emphasis on Yoga for the students, staffs and also parents. Every year the department give merit scholarship (V K John Memorial endowment) for best Male and Female athlete. There are seats reserved under sports quota for Degree courses: 1 seats for each B.Sc and 3 seats each for BA/B.Com. 1 seat is reserved for all PG courses on rotation basis for outstanding sports students. Photocopy of the original application along with copies of sports certificates should be submitted to the Department of Physical Education for admission to a seat under sports quota. Grace marks will be awarded to students who represent University and Interuniversity competitions. The physical education department having a multipurpose gymnasium with ample facility   in order to ensure the fitness of the student community.
