Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics  was established along with the inception of the college in the year 1981. B.Sc programme was started in the year 2014 with Physics and Statistics as subsidiary disciplines. At present the department has 1 permanent faculty and 3 guest faculty members.

In 2020 due to pandemic Covid-19 online classes were introduced and one semester was completed using various online platforms like Google classroom, Google meet, YouTube etc

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

The importance of mathematics is difficult to overstate. In addition to mathematical solutions in everyday life, mathematics plays a key role in solving more complex problems. For example, physicists use mathematics to model real-life phenomena ranging from magnetism to projectile motion. In short, math is significant because it allows people to solve for unknowns rather than merely estimating or guessing their values.

In everyday life, we use Mathematics for such simple tasks as telling time from a clock or counting our change after making a purchase. We also use Mathematics for such complex tasks as making up a household budget or balancing our cheque book. Cooking, driving, gardening, sewing and many other common activities involve Mathematical Calculations. Mathematics is also part of many games, hobbies and sports.

Financial analysts often use mathematics to analyze market data, find patterns in data and predict risks. Financial risks can fall under these categories: Market risk: Market risk refers to financial risks in the company's target market, including market changes.

Commercial organizations use mathematics in accounting, inventory management, marketing, sales forecasting, and financial analysis. It helps you know the financial formulas, fractions; measurements involved in interest calculation, hire rates, salary calculation, tax calculation etc.

Astronomers frequently use math in their work to attain their objectives. They use it to determine the paths of satellites, rockets, and space vehicles, as well as to convey signals in the global positioning system when compressed data is sent. Algebra is used to compute speed and track motion

In engineering, math and science are tools used within the engineering design process. Using the design process to address a problem or an issue leads to the solution of the problem and a product which might be a component, a system, or a process that fulfills a need that will benefit society.
